Why Choose Black Mulch?

Black Mulch is perfect for areas where you want to showcase the plants. Exotic plants and colorful flowers are perfect plants for laying black mulch, which will provide a solid backdrop and make plants stand out. Black Mulch easily stays where it is laid, and generally it is only a matter of taste when choosing Hemlock or Black Mulch.

Our Natural Black Mulch

Our Black Mulch is 100% organic. It is a softly shredded mulch that is a beautifully natural black color, similar to rich topsoil. It will not noticeably fade over the course of one year.

What Makes Our Natural Black Different?

Black Mulch
100% Organic Black
Black Mulch Pile
Won't Fade to Gray

There are many inorganic types of Black Mulch on the market. Mulch labeled as "Black" is often manufactured with cheaper varieties of wood and then dyed with ash or chemical dyes to make it black. A chemical dye will quickly fade, getting absorbed into the soil, and leaving you with discolored mulch. Mulch dyed with ash will leave black on your hands, and quickly fade to gray. Our Black Mulch will hardly fade, and will not be uneven in color. However, natural Black Mulch is essentially wood and compost that gets burned to create the black color. Black Mulch is made naturally by adding wood with other organic composting materials, such as leaves, in a pile. As the mixture sits, organisms begin to create excessive heat within the pile. The heat burns the material, turning it black.
