Isn't All Mulch Organic? Many companies use inorganic dye to alter the color of their mulch. They also use cheap materials for filler to bring the costs down. These fillers can be anything from pallet wood to glass. As the mulch breaks down, the chemicals in these materials will be absorbed by the surrounding plants and soil. All of our mulches do not contain any of these materials that could be harmful to your soil. |
How Much Mulch Do I Need? Generally a 2 inch layer of mulch will prevent weeds from growing. Up to a 4 inch layer can be used to further prevent weeds in beds without any plants or trees. Please refer to our Materials Calculator for more info. |
What Does Your Hemlock Look Like? Our Hemlock is reddish-brown in color. It is not the orangey-red color of other Hemlock Mulches. Our Hemlock retains its color for at least one full year, and is perfect for a muted-color home, such as white or gray. Hemlock provides contrast to your home and draws the eye across your property, making your property look larger. |
What Does Your Black Mulch Look Like?
Our Black Mulch is a natural dark color, similar to a rich topsoil. It retains its color for at least one full year, and is perfect for colorful plant beds. The black will make plants pop. |
Does Pine Bark Mulch Deter Insects More Than Other Mulches?
While it is true that Pine Bark has a stronger smell than the other mulches, none of the mulches will attract or deter bugs. Pine Bark is a cheaper mulch because it decomposes faster, meaning that it won't last as long as the other mulches. Pine Bark also releases nitrogen into your soil, which will stimulate weed growth. |
What Is Playground Certified Mulch?
Playground-Certified Mulch has been ASTM tested to be free of harmful metals and chemicals and is certified to have a great amount of shock absorbency. It meets ASTM standards. It needs a 6 inch layer of mulch in order to achieve the certification. It is wheelchair accessible and is a required component of many schools or children care centers across New England. |
How Does Organic Playground-Certified Mulch Compare to Rubber Mulch?
Rubber Mulch is generally more expensive than organic Playground-Certified Mulch. It also releases chemicals into the soil as the rubber and dye decomposes, and is considered a hazardous material for disposal. Maintenance (or lack thereof) of either mulch is virtually the same. |
Does Organic Playground-Certified Mulch attract bugs?
No, bugs are not attracted to organic mulch any more than any other part of your yard. |
Does Organic Playground-Certified Mulch Need to be Raked or Re-Applied Often?
No. As with any playground mulch, a thin layer of Playground-Certified Mulch should be re-applied after several years of use to maintain the shock absorbency. |

| How Do I Install Cutting Edge™? |
| Cutting Edge™ is a blend of exceptional grass seeds, but can be applied like other types of grass seed. Each lawn will be somewhat different, so for proper instructions for your lawn, please contact us. |
| Will Cutting Edge™ Work on My Lawn |
| Cutting Edge™ has been installed all over North America with great success. Because of the deep roots, Cutting Edge™ does well on most lawns. It is great in both hot or cold climates, rocky or sandy soil, direct sun or dense shade, and many other areas that are difficult to grow grass. |
| Is Cutting Edge™ Just a Scam? |
| Cutting Edge™ lawns are growing all over North America. We agree that it sounds too good to be true, but we have it installed on our own property, and have seen how great this grass truly is! If you need to hear more testimonials, check out what other people think about Cutting Edge™. |
| Can I Just Overseed with Cutting Edge™? |
| Cutting Edge™ can be overseeded over other grasses. After several years, Cutting Edge™ will take over your old lawn. However the grass is very unique and extremely slow growing, which means that until that time, you will not be receiving the full benefits of the lawn, and it will have the appearance of what we call a bad haircut. The Cutting Edge™ grass will be short and slow growing, whereas the other grasses will need weekly mowing. We feel that you will be happiest with your lawn, if you get rid of your previous grass and install Cutting Edge™. It's not as difficult as it sounds, and will be much more rewarding. |
| Will Cutting Edge™ Ruin My Septic System, Other Plants or Trees? |
| While Cutting Edge™ does grow 48 inch roots, the roots are still as thin and fine as standard grass roots. They will not be able to penetrate your septic system or other piping, and will not overpower other plants' or trees' roots. |
| Can Cutting Edge™ be hydroseeded? |
| Cutting Edge™ is excellent for hydroseeding applications. |
| Will Cutting Edge™ Grow in Dense Shade? |
| Cutting Edge™ is highly adaptable. It is excellent in dense shade and can outperform other shade grasses on the market. |
| When Is the Best Time to Plant Cutting Edge™? |
| Like a regular lawn, spring and fall are the best times to plant Cutting Edge™ when the average ground temperature is between 50-70 degrees. |
| Does Cutting Edge™ Come in Sod, or Smaller Bags? |
| At the moment, Cutting Edge™ only comes in 50lb and 25lb bags. Sod and smaller bags are coming in 2012. |
